National Key Accounts Manager

Key Account ~ Sales
Johannesburg North, Johannesburg – Gauteng – South Africa

Our client in the pharmaceutical industry is seeking a National Key Accounts Manager with strong commercial and analytical skills. You will develop and implement business plans for major retail pharmacy and healthcare wholesale accounts. This high-impact role requires a commercially astute professional capable of driving sales growth, building strong partnerships, and optimising account performance through data-driven decision-making.
 
Your Responsibilities:
    • Develop and execute strategic national account plans aligned with divisional objectives.
    • Drive business growth by improving sales, revenue, and gross margins across pharmacy and wholesale channels.
    • Manage day-to-day commercial activities, including contract management, compliance, and pricing negotiations.
    • Liaise with key customers, conduct business reviews, and participate in high-level negotiations.
    • Oversee trading terms, budgets, and expenditure, ensuring profitability targets are met.
    • Monitor and analyse sales performance, stock levels, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities.
    • Strengthen customer relationships with buyers, wholesalers, and internal departments including Finance, Supply Chain, and Marketing.
    • Provide weekly performance reporting and support the month-end close process.
    • Collaborate with Regional Sales Managers to ensure consistent commercial execution across regions.
 
Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, or related field.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sales or key account management, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
    • Proven experience managing strategic accounts in the FMCG, Pharmacy, or Healthcare Wholesale sector.
    • Strong financial and business acumen with excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
    • Advanced analytical capability with proficiency in Excel and Business Intelligence tools
    • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
    • A proactive and results-oriented mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
