Deputy Responsible Pharmacist [Cape Town]

Our client in the pharmaceutical industry is seeking an experienced and compliance-focused Deputy Responsible Pharmacist to support the Responsible Pharmacist in ensuring pharmaceutical distribution and wholesale operations comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements and Good Distribution/Wholesaling Practices. The role will oversee key quality and operational activities while deputising for the Responsible Pharmacist when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with applicable pharmaceutical legislation and regulatory requirements, including SAHPRA, SAPC, cGDP/GWP and Good Pharmacy Practice.

  • Support and maintain an effective Quality Management System (QMS), including SOPs, deviations, non-conformances, CAPAs, validation and risk assessments.

  • Deputise for the Responsible Pharmacist, performing RP responsibilities and acting as the stand-in RP when required.

  • Oversee product release, pharmaceutical storage, quarantine, returns, recalls, cold chain and scheduled medicine controls.

  • Maintain Schedule 5 and Schedule 6 registers and ensure appropriate management of Section 21 medicines.

  • Prepare for regulatory and third-party audits, address findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out.

  • Support pharmacovigilance, product complaints, reverse logistics and stock management activities.

  • Ensure pharmaceutical products are appropriately stored, transported, documented and handled throughout distribution operations.

  • Engage with SAHPRA, Department of Health and SAPC, while maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external authorities.

  • Provide GDP/GWP training and support continuous compliance across warehouse and distribution operations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm).

  • Active registration with the SAPC.

  • 2–3 years’ experience as a Pharmacist or Deputy Pharmacist.

  • Experience within a pharmaceutical distribution or wholesale environment advantageous.

  • Experience with Quality Management Systems advantageous.
