Our pharmaceutical client is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Buyer to manage the procurement of raw and packaging materials, ensuring adherence to purchasing policies while securing the best value from suppliers. This role plays a critical part in inventory management and supplier collaboration to maintain optimal production flow and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Place orders for raw and packaging materials in accordance with production requirements.
- Schedule material needs based on the MRP Production Plan (Oracle).
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal days of cover at the plant.
- Collaborate with central procurement to address price discrepancies.
- Build and maintain partnerships with suppliers through regular engagement.
- Address material rejections and deficiencies with suppliers.
- Proactively liaise with suppliers to manage stock shortages and schedule deliveries.
- Work closely with Receiving Administrators to resolve issues with faulty or incorrect stock.
- Evaluate and maintain a database of potential and existing suppliers.
- Draft and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all procurement-related activities.
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies and safety standards.
- Process departmental requests and source quotes as required.
- Monitor and evaluate quality, price, and service against agreements.
- Promote BBBEE compliance by sourcing BBBEE suppliers and maintaining relevant data.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Matric/Grade 12 with 10+ years of experience in a purchasing role, OR
- Tertiary Diploma/Degree in Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Business Management with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in purchasing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Oracle experience is advantageous.
