Policy & Communications Lead, Sub Sahara Africa

Our client in the global pharmaceutical industry is seeking an experienced Policy & Communications Lead to drive strategic policy development, external relations, patient advocacy, and communications across Sub-Sahara Africa. This senior leadership role is responsible for shaping the external environment, supporting business priorities, and strengthening the organisation’s reputation through proactive policy platforms, coalition-building, and strategic communication initiatives.
 
Key Responsibilities
Policy & Strategy
  • Monitor policy trends, risks, and opportunities to inform strategic decisions.
  • Develop and implement policy strategies that support business objectives across SSA.
  • Prepare policy insights and briefings for leadership and ensure alignment with global positions.
External Relations
  • Build strong relationships with policymakers, industry bodies, advocacy groups, and key influencers.
  • Represent the organisation in relevant advocacy forums and support external engagements.
Patient Advocacy
  • Lead regional patient advocacy initiatives to strengthen patient engagement and support access to medicines.
  • Manage relationships with patient groups and coordinate relevant community events and activities.
Communications
  • Serve as the communications point-of-contact for SSA, supporting executives and country teams.
  • Develop clear, aligned communication materials including briefs, talking points, and statements.
  • Manage proactive and reactive communications while ensuring alignment with global messaging.
 
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, or Health Policy.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the life-sciences industry, consulting, public policy, or similar environments.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare policy, pricing, access, and reimbursement landscapes.
  • Proven ability to build networks, influence stakeholders, and deliver strategic policy outcomes.
  • Experience developing communication strategies and supporting senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and project-management capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is essential (French advantageous).
