Regional Key Account Manager – Cape Town

Our client, a prominent player in the pharmaceutical industry, is seeking a driven and strategic Key Account Manager to join their team in Cape Town. This role is essential in managing and expanding relationships with OTC pharmacies and wholesalers, driving business growth, and ensuring the successful execution of strategic business plans. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales and key account management, with a focus on fostering long-term relationships and delivering on sales and profit targets.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Develop strategic account plans aligned with the OTC Accounts National Plan.
  • Drive business growth and enhance commercial execution, focusing on increasing sales, revenue, and gross margins within pharmacies and wholesalers.
  • Manage the day-to-day commercial aspects of client business relationships, including ensuring compliance with contracts or agreements, customer interactions, sales calls, and participation in meetings and negotiations (e.g., negotiating prices, terms of trade, discounts, rebates, returns, etc.).
  • Oversee expenditure within trade spend budgets and manage trading terms with key customers.
  • Ensure the availability of OTC products and services to customers.
  • Systematically analyse sales results, expectations, market conditions, competition, and trends to inform strategies.
  • Coordinate all negotiations related to business dealings with defined customers.
  • Monitor stock levels at key accounts, wholesalers, and distributors, advising on customer inventory needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with buyers, wholesalers, ordering departments, and internal stakeholders in supply chain, finance, and marketing.
  • Ensure timely reporting of weekly performance metrics to the Commercial KAM Lead to effectively track performance and manage the month-end close process.
  • Manage third-party agencies on a national level.
 
Required Qualifications and Experience:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in sales or key account management.
  • Exposure to strategic customer management within an FMCG, Pharmacy, or Wholesale environment.
 
Core Competencies:
 
The successful candidate will demonstrate solid financial and business acumen, with excellent quantitative and analytical skills and a strong attention to detail and accuracy. You should have the ability to develop strong relationships with both internal and external customers, and a desire to work in a high-growth, results-oriented team environment. Proficiency in Business Intelligence Tools (BI) such as Micro Strategy and advanced Excel functions for data analysis is essential. Additionally, you should possess strong negotiation and influencing skills, be business-oriented, and target-driven.
